  • Frank Lampard targets two PSG players to improve Chelsea's midfield
Chelsea are targeting Paris Saint-Germain duo Julian Draxler and Idrissa Gueye, according to reports in France. Earlier this month, Frank Lampard’s side had their transfer ban reduced which now enables them to sign players in the upcoming January window. Lampard has reportedly been given a £150 million transfer budget and is keen to strengthen his midfield ahead of the second half of the campaign. According to Le10 Sport, Chelsea have both Draxler and Gueye on their shortlist. Draxler looks likely to depart next month having started just five games in Ligue 1 for PSG this season.

The 26-year-old has less than two years remaining on his current deal with the French champions and would offer Lampard another versatile option for his Chelsea squad. ‘I was always a player who could play like number 10 or on the wings, but now I play more in the midfield like a number eight, sometimes even as a number six,’ Draxler told beIN Sports earlier this month. ‘Wherever the team needs me, I’m going to play there, and I think that’s one of my good characteristics on the pitch that I can adapt very fast and very well.’

Gueye, however, represents a more difficult option for Chelsea as he has been a regular in PSG’s midfield this season. The 30-year-old was signed from Everton in a deal worth around £30 million and has made 15 appearances for the French champions this term. Le10 Sport report that PSG’s sporting director Leonardo is looking for alternatives to Gueye but given his impressive start to the campaign, it’s highly unlikely that the midfielder will leave next month.
