Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is eyeing a January transfer move for West Ham defender Issa Diop, as the Red Devils aim to rival Chelsea to the defender’s signature.

Manchester United are considering making a move for West Ham centre-back Issa Diop. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be willing to part with £40million to sign the 23-year-old, who has also been linked with a move to Chelsea.
Diop has impressed this season at the London Stadium, despite the Hammers’ indifferent first half to their campaign.
Chelsea have been watching the defender for some time, Express Sport understands.
Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is also reportedly a fan of the French centre-back.
But, now United are also interested in signing Diop, with Solskjaer looking to bolster his defensive ranks, according to The Sun.
The Red Devils boss knows that he needs to improve his defence, after shipping three goals in the first-half to rivals Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.
United have only kept one clean sheet in the league since their 1-0 win against Leicester City in mid-September.
Meanwhile, despite West Ham’s comparatively lower league position, Diop has seen the Hammers keep four clean sheets over the same period.
West Ham signed Diop from French Ligue 1 side Toulouse in 2018 for £23m.
He was a staple of part of Manuel Pellegrini’s team last season, making 33 Premier League appearances, scoring a single goal.
This campaign, he’s already made 15 league appearances, starting all of West Ham’s first 13 matches.
But, he was left out of David Moyes’ squad to face Sheffield United on Friday night.
Moyes is unwilling to let Diop leave the club at this point in the season, Express Sport understands.
Even if the manager did sanction the move, West Ham are believed to be hoping for at least £50m for the defender.
Meanwhile, Solskjaer is also reportedly interested in signing Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.
Unite have been linked with a move for Koulibaly for a number of years, but a move has failed to materialise.
United chief Ed Woodward is planning to make a move for Koulibaly in the summer, according to Corriere dello Sport.
The Senegal international’s future at United is far from certain, having fallen out with former boss Carlo Ancelotti.
United are showing the most interest in signing Koulibaly, although there are other clubs eyeing a move for the defender.
Manchester City are reportedly preparing to trigger his £100m release clause at Napoli.
